Appalachian Ski Mtn. had its beginning over 50 years ago when Grady Moretz and four other partners purchased the area as a foreclosure in a public auction. The ski area was known as “Blowing Rock Ski Lodge” when it opened in 1962 and officially named Appalachian Ski Mtn. in 1968.
Learn to ski or snowboard with the Southeast’s oldest and best known ski school, the French-Swiss Ski College. Group and private lessons are taught in a safe, fun and friendly environment. Our dedicated instructors teach newcomers and coach intermediate skiers and snowboarders seeking to improve their skills.
