WYATT’S STORY:
Wyatt Cottrell is the grandson of Jim Cottrell, who was the founder of the French-Swiss Ski College. Jim spent years establishing a first class ski school and is well known in the southeast region, and probably all over the country, for his outstanding reputation with FSSC! Wyatt Cottrell is 8 years old and has been attending Blowing Rock School. Wyatt was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in his right leg at 18 months old, lost most of his calf muscle, and went thru about 18 months of treatment at Baptist Hospital in Winston. He was in remission for a few years and living life fairly normal until his cancer returned fall 2021 as Osteosarcoma in his left leg. This is considered a different type of cancer than his first one. His oncology team at Baptist immediately started intense chemotherapy treatments, which he is still undergoing. He also has spots in his lungs of Osteosarcoma. The Dr’s advised amputating his leg and that was successfully done on December 23. On Dec.7, before his surgery, their Dr diagnosed Wyatt with a rare syndrome called Li -Fraumeni syndrome. He is high risk due to this syndrome and the cancer he had before, which may cause him to have multiple cancers in his life. Their Dr also explained that that if/when he gets another cancer his body has received it’s limit of chemo and treatments. Wyatt also has 2 young siblings at home.
